Hello and welcome back!
I’ve got so much to share with you again!
Did you have a chance to check out the three APQS longarm experts I introduced you to in my last post? I hope so; they’re fabulous quilters! And as promised, I’ll introduce you to three Handi Quilter experts this time!
Plus, I have more details on some upcoming informational … and free … local events, as well as several sale updates. So much happening!
Introducing Longarm Quilting Experts Continued …
Okay, my last post introduced you to three internationally recognized APQS longarm quilters: Karen McTavish, Claudia Pfeil and Angela Huffman.
Claudia just wrapped up an in-person teaching event with APQS this past week. But guess what?! Karen McTavish is offering four ½ day training sessions scheduled for May 20 – 21, 2025 through APQS as well. If you have the time and resources, click here for more information.
This post, I’ll introduce you to three experts that use Handi Quilter longarm machines: Megan Best, Debby Brown and Angela Walters.
Quilting with … Megan Best
Megan Best began quilting when she was in high school. She went on to earn degrees in apparel design and merchandising/textiles.
She excels in computerized and free-motion quilting and has won numerous awards at the national level.
Megan loves to teach! She shares her longarm knowledge and experience at national and international events, and she is a Handi Quilter National Educator.
When you explore Megan’s website, bestquilter.com, you’ll find several video tutorials on using Pro-Stitcher. She also shares a sampling of the many quilting publications she’s been featured in over the past 20+ years.
Quilting with … Debby Brown
Debby Brown began quilting over 30 years ago while expecting her first child. Now she is an award-winning quilter and has appeared in several major quilting publications. Debby has also published patterns and books, filmed instructional DVDs, and self-produced online classes.
Like Megan, she loves to teach! Debby enjoys working with new free-motion quilters because she knows what encouragement can stimulate their success. She also loves teaching ruler work in combination with free-motion quilting to quilters of all skill levels.
Debby began her relationship with Handi Quilter in 2006. Now a Handi Quilter National Educator, she has several in-person classes scheduled in New York and Pennsylvania through the first week of December. Details are provided on her Handi Quilter profile page.
On a personal note, after decades of quilting, Debby developed a rare autoimmune disease. She found that among all her treatments, quilting was one of her most effective medicines. As a result, Debby is passionate about helping other quilters gain confidence in their machine quilting skills so they can also “quilt their way through life.”
Debby’s website, debbybrownquilts.com, offers an active blog, products for sale, and several online machine quilting classes. And you can stay in touch by signing up for her newsletter!
Quilting with … Angela Walters
Angela Walters learned to quilt “many moons ago” with the help of her husband’s grandfather. The nine-patch quilt he helped her make is still on her bed today!
With time, quilting grew from a hobby into a passion and Angela has grown into a prominent author, teacher, and fabric designer. She has also created a line of rulers for machine quilting.
My guess is that if you don’t own, you’ve heard of, one or more of Angela’s books. She’s written:
- Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters
- Shape by Shape Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters: 70+ Designs for Blocks, Backgrounds and Borders
- Shape by Shape, Collection 2 and
- Free-Motion Meandering: A Beginners Guide to Machine Quilting.
Just this year, she published The Ultimate Guide to Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters: Tips, Techniques & 104 Designs!
Angela’s website, Quilting is My Therapy, offers a wealth of resources. In addition to introducing you to Angela, the site provides access to products, patterns, her blog and class information. You can also sign up to receive her newsletter.
Quilting is My Therapy is more than just a website, however. It’s also a brick-and-mortar shop located in Liberty, Missouri (just outside of Kansas City). Originally intended to be Angela’s studio, the space soon transformed into the home of a thriving community offering classes, longarm training and events intended to showcase the fun of quilting!
A popular instructor, Angela’s mission is to make quilting accessible to anyone who wants to learn. Whether a first-time quilter just learning the basics or a seasoned quilter looking for a new technique, everyone attending comes away with something new.
Angela offers an extensive selection of learning opportunities!
She loves traveling to teach quilting classes, and if you happen to be in the area, her shop in Liberty hosts frequent classes and events. Online opportunities include classes, tutorials, and challenges offered through both her website and her YouTube channel.
Megan, Debby and Angela … that’s three more talented quilters to follow! I’d love to hear if you’ve had the opportunity to explore the resources offered by any of the six longarm experts I’ve introduced you to over the past two posts. Please share what you’ve liked or learned!
Okay … now on to the event and sale information I promised!
